Career/Important facts:
Federico began playing guitar at the age of 7 and formed his first rock band at 12. By age 16, he immersed himself in jazz, studying and performing the genre seriously.
His first project, Tremebunda (2008), released a Jazz-Candombe demo and performed in various theaters across Uruguay. You can listen to the demo here. Around the same time, he recorded an album with Grupo Simpleza as a classical guitarist and arranger, which can be found here. Both groups were invited to perform at the Mercedes Jazz Festival, one of Uruguay's most prestigious jazz events. Since 2010, Federico has served as the Musical Director of one of Montevideo’s longest-running Jazz Jam Sessions at the Shannon Irish Pub, where he pays tribute to the great jazz composers every Monday night. Federico has also gained experience playing Candombe, an Afro-Uruguayan musical style, in the Montevideo Carnival for three years (2009-2011) with groups Yambo Kenya and Mi Morena, both of which have won multiple awards for Best Musical Band. More about these bands can be found here.
In 2010, Federico worked as a Backing Track Music Producer for NeoMusic Productions (Argentina) and also served as a session musician for jingle production companies, including Mezcal Productions, Pink Noise Productions, and CeroDB, where he produced various jingles. As an educator, Federico currently teaches a Music Production course at Escuela Carne. He has also taught harmony, music theory, and guitar at Escuela de Música Montevideo (2012-2014) and has been offering private lessons since 2002.
Throughout his career as a sideman, Federico has recorded and performed live with notable artists such as Pitufo Lombardo, Tabaré Cardozo, Alfonsina, and Claudio Martínez. Recently, he recorded an album with renowned musicians Sebastián Teysera (La Vela Puerca), Emiliano Brancciari (No Te Va Gustar), Guillermo Peluffo (Trotsky Vengarán), Roberto Musso (Cuarteto de Nos), and others. Currently, he is arranging orchestral pieces for Cristian Castro with the SODRE Orchestra.
Federico has also explored the Uruguayan folk scene, touring extensively with Matices and performing with numerous cover bands such as John Fisher’s Band (Country/Rockabilly), Ache Quintet (Funk/Reggae), and Funcosos (Pop/Funk). In 2014, Federico released a solo album that won the Best Candombe Composition Award from Uruguay’s Ministry of Culture in 2015. The album showcases his original compositions and arrangements, involving over ten musicians, including a string quartet, brass trio, Brazilian choro strings, Uruguayan folk drums, and other Latin-American percussion instruments. In 2019, Federico released "Microcosmos," a Jazz/Fusion album with his Jazz Quintet, Dual Project, for which he composed, arranged, and mixed all the music. One of the tracks won the Best Jazz Composition Award from Uruguay’s Ministry of Culture. In the Brazilian music realm, he composed, arranged, and produced the latest album for La Chorona, the first Choro band in Uruguay, blending Rio de la Plata music with traditional "Choro" instrumentation. This project featured esteemed musicians like Hugo Fattoruso, Nicolás Arnicho, and Grupos Sonantes (String Orchestra). La Chorona also recorded a live DVD with original arrangements of traditional Chorinhos in 2013. Check out their work here.
In the field of classical music, Federico has performed as a mandolin player with Uruguay's national symphonic orchestra, SODRE, for productions such as Verdi’s Otello and Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet. From 2016 to 2020, Federico worked as a Showband Guitarist for Carnival Cruise Lines, performing various genres like Pop, Rock, Funk, Jazz, and Production Shows. His band was ranked number one in the fleet in 2016. For more details about Carnival, visit here.
Currently, Federico operates his own studio, Duality Records, where he works as a Music Producer, helping artists develop their unique styles and promoting their work. In 2020, he established this one-person studio to produce, record, mix, and master for several artists, including Alfonsina, T-ROB (Mexico), Mica Sapin, and many others. Since 2022, Federico has been training session guitarists for cruise ship gigs and serves as a talent scout for Lime Entertainment. This effort led to the creation of an online course with over 100 enrolled students from Latin America, aimed at helping musicians prepare for auditions and find work on cruise ships or in tourist destinations.
